Maybe this is just recency bias, but this was the best season of Ao no Exorcist imo. We extended to whole world-level threats and I love it.
One thing I didn't like is how they butchered the manga in the first couple episodes, but it doesn't really matter at this point.
A new season was announced as expected, because there is no way they are ending it here (+there were leaks that this season will be 3 cours long in total)

Also this OP is absolute fire, I recommend listening to the full version too

Sad people forgot all about it or these are entirely new anime viewers but was eagerly awaiting this for a while.

a 9/10 is waay too much for this season, if season 1 was a 7-8, then this season is a 6.5 imo. Don't get me wrong, i definitely did enjoy the season, but the Izumo situation felt like it dragged on for way too long and my interest severally decreased. how you might ask? its when you open all the anime you're gonna watch on that specific day in new separate tabs and then you end up watching it last because its not as interesting as the other anime, or even, you end up watching it on the day that you have no anime to watch; sometimes you cant even bring yourself to watch the episode, so it ends up stacking until you drop it. The redeeming factors of this season is the illuminati pulling up and announcing a declaration of war, shiemi and rin's romance moment, the reveal that shima is a double spy and yukio seeking power again. Izumo's backstory is fucked and sad yes, but it just wasn't that interesting tbh. maybe if there was a bit of sakuga within the fights then I might've had more interest despite the story.

I totally agree. I literally waited until today where I have nothing to watch to watch this. I do not know how new anime fans will react to this show, but I really think that Blue Exorcist really did not age well or it could just be the pacing, but I really just thought that is show was ok. I almost forgot this show even existed until it came out.

most new anime fans will instantly go to the current classics and start their journeys from there, mob psycho, OPM, AOT, Frieren, kaguya sama, Reincarnated as a slime, shows that are straight stallions from the jump and only get better after the first season, some of them maybe even go back a few generations and watch the big 3, some just might go down the watch anything route and decide what they like from there. a lot will definitely end up on noragami and steins gate. death note and code geass will end up as someone's top anime even. blue exorcist is definitely stuck within time era of 2012+, theres absolutely no chance that it'll be able to hold its own against giants like jjk, Chainsaw man, Hell's paradise and Vinland saga, in terms of both story and animation.

the only way for this to shine, is if they make it into a passion project and put their all into the animation like demon slayer and SAO before progessive, despite the story being mediocre.

Well War of Underworld was pretty good in my opinion, but I really think season 1 of Blue exorcist did not help at all. The ending and season 2 does not really connect for reasons we all know and watchers will just get confused.

srsly yukio's situation is not so surprised...since rin is his brother and we now what rin is...sadly his pride cant accept that he also has a demon genes like rin

Personal thoughts:
Another good season of Blue Exorcist with adapting from the manga with good to decent to production quality but what's the only negatives about this is the seasons are adapting the arcs but sadly it's loosing it's popularity and luster cause when S1 ended pretty much cut so much content that it's taking way too long adapting the missing chapters/arc into anime.

Which if this was taken back in time with only 12+ eps and adapted slowly this would have been better and be like the process of MHA is.

Aside from that love the background history and feels towards Izumo T_T.

Not to mention the arcs they cut out of this season while adapting it.

LOL Of course Shura gets discharged for the beach episode, the queen of jiggles in this series had to be present after all. I was not expecting a fanservice last episode but I enjoyed both sides of the service.

Looks like the next arc will focus on Yukio, I might try rewatching the first two seasons to get an understanding of his dilemma since it seems like it'll be a heavy one.

Interesting how bothered Shima seemed when Suguro said that he wouldn't trust him, it feels like he's truly excited about being a spy and having fun with it, but at the same, I don't think he's truly prepared for the consequences. His reaction to Miwa makes me think he feels guilty too so it is an interesting mix of emotions he's showing and it might be because of who they are specifically.

It was a decent season and the problems are worldwide now.
Rin and Shima are way too similar sometimes, their desires are practically the same as well.

Interesting make sense that Yukio is acting like that while he feared the power of Satan as he would be treated with the same mistrust as Rin, his desire for power is was just as strong as that fear and it seems that Yukio will end up betraying Rin to acquire it

Exactly, he do deserves the mistrust he receives from practically everyone with his actions.

He did say they were all his pawns. Might be his own twisted way of powering them up for whathever his goal is

the animation was a little messed in some scenes but i enjoyed the season nonetheless!! I hope there is another season soon... The anime really brought back so many memories :")
